Blizzard of 2010
By Firefighter John Fitzpatrick
February 8, 2010
All week the weather was calling for over two feet of snow for the DC Metro area. Volunteers from 11 started getting ready for the supposed blizzard and when Friday came and the snow started to fall, the station was staffed with 17 volunteers. During the duration of the storm Station 11 took in a total of 82 calls.
During the storm not only were the Engine and Ambulance staffed, but two chief's buggies both 4x4 were used for running calls to assist both the Engine and Ambulance. With roads being so bad at points of this storm the chief's vehicles were used to coordinate the best running routes for responding apparatus, running wires down calls, and medical local calls.
Station 11 would like to thank all members who staffed the station during the storm. Also a special thank you goes out to the community, who where there when Engine 11 was returning from a call and a van stuck in the snow blocked the only exit for the Engine. Members from 11 and the community shoveled out snow until the Engine could pass.
