By FF/EMT Thomas Tanner
May 21, 2017

At around 5:30am Sunday morning, Branchville Engine 811B and Ambulance 811 were alerted with units from Battalion Chief 4 and Companies 812, 814 and 849 to respond for structural collapse resulting from a car striking a house in the 5100 block of Berwyn Road in the Berwyn section of College Park. A811 and E811B arrived to find a 4 door sedan had crashed into the front corner an enclosed porch/addition of a two-story single family dwelling and then had pulled itself out. The occupants, asleep in a rear bedroom, and the vehicle's driver and passenger were uninjured. The structure was stable so the assignment was returned with the exception of units from Branchville and BC884 who remained on scene until the arrival of the Special Hazards car. Prince George's County Police took the driver into custody. Special Hazards posted the front addition as uninhabitable and units returned to service.
