Two Firefighters injured battling Adelphi house fire
Around 12:45 am Monday morning, Engine 811 with a crew of five volunteers responded for a report of a house fire in the 10100 block of Riggs Road in Adelphi .
First units arrived on the scene and encountered heavy smoke coming from a one-story house, with heavy fire conditions in the basement area.
The crew of Engine 811 advanced an attack line to the rear of the house and started to make an attack on the fire. However, due to heavy fire conditions and the possibility of a collapse of the first floor, firefighters were forced to evacuate. It took fire crews about an hour to bring the fire under control.
One firefighter suffered cuts to his hand and was transported to a local hospital. A second firefighter was treated on the scene for an minor injury.
According to Mark Brady, Public Information Officer for Prince George's County Fire Department, "Nine adults were displaced. The fire started in the basement of the house but the fire is still under investigation and estimated fire loss is about $100,000".
